Haiti Service Learning & Summer Immersion Program -
Haitian Mental Health (HMH) Network
The Haiti Service Learning and Summer Immersion Program is a graduate-level course in partnership with the Haitian Mental Health Network. The primary goal of the course is to provide students with increased knowledge, skills, and experience in working with Haitian and Haitian-American individuals and families; and in becoming more skilled as practitioners to serve Haitian communities in the U.S. and Haiti. Students take part in didactic activities to learn about the history of Haiti, cultural belief systems and practices, and their impact on help-seeking behaviors among Haitian immigrants. Additionally, students travel for a week-long service learning and summer immersion experience in Haiti where they gain a deeper appreciation of the language, customs, and cultural practices of Haitian society. While in Haiti, students engage in service learning activities and multidisciplinary collaborations with schools, grassroots organizations, and health care and social services agencies. They also participate in cultural excursions, and visit historical sites and other points of interest in the host community.

Latino/a/x Project -
Peers Envisioning and Engaging in Recovery Services (PEERS)
the Everyone Counts Campaign will be focusing on the Latino/a/x community. We will be making efforts to reduce stigma and discrimination within our communities and creating cultural inclusiveness. Stigma is often a barrier for people to seek treatment and share their experiences. For this reason, the Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services Everyone Counts Campaign through PEERS focuses on the strengths and wellness of people.
In the Latino community there are many barriers to care for example the stigma associated with mental health problems. The fear of admitting to having a mental health issue because it can be seen as sign of weakness. Also the lack of knowledge and awareness about the mental health system because of things like language barriers. According to research from SAMHSA Latino adults with a mental health challenge are 34% less likely to receive treatment.

Let’s Prevent Diabetes Program -
National Alliance for Hispanic Health
The National Alliance for Hispanic Health’s (the Alliance) Let’s Prevent Diabetes (Prevengamos la diabetes (LPD)) Program contributes to the nation’s health and well-being by addressing prediabetes and the disproportionate burden of diabetes among Hispanics by replicating CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) in seven underserved communities through the delivery of a Lifestyle Change Program (LCP).
A CDC-recognized Alliance community-based organization partner in each community is delivering a 12-month intervention using the culturally proficient and bilingual “Prevent T2 Curriculum / Prevenga el T2 Currículo” to hundreds of participants each year. It is anticipated that program participants diagnosed with prediabetes or at risk for diabetes who complete the curriculum will learn and adopt meaningful healthy lifestyle strategies, achieve a 5-7% weight loss, increase regular physical activity, and decrease their risk for type 2 diabetes.

Mental Health Capacity Building Program -
Haitian Mental Health (HMH) Network
The HMH Network has collaborated on a mental health capacity building project. The goal of this initiative is to provide intensive psycho-educational training to teachers on the signs, risk factors, and symptoms of various mental illnesses among children and adolescents. The project’s aim is to assist teachers in identifying early signs of mental health problems in young people so that proper interventions can be implemented. This initiative is being conducted in partnership with Rebâti Santé Mentale and Ogier-Fombrun Museum. In addition to providing mental health training to school personnel, the program will incorporate an educational curriculum based on the only local historical museum in Archaie, the Ogier-Fombrun Museum, which houses artifacts from the pre-Colombian Indian era to colonial times.
