ECNP is an independent scientific association dedicated to the science and treatment of disorders of the brain. It is the largest non-institutional supporter of applied and translational neuroscience research and education in Europe. To achieve its aims, ECNP organises a wide range of activities, programmes and events across Europe. The European Brain and Behaviour Society promotes the exchange of information between European scientists interested in the relationship of brain mechanisms and behaviour. Established in 1968, EBBS is the oldest society in the world focused on the interrelationship between brain and behaviour and is a founding member of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS). From its inception, it has existed to encourage lively and convivial exchange of ideas between investigators at all career stages and across disciplines interested in how the careful study of behaviour is central to our understanding of brain function. To this end, the Society organises a biennial General Meeting that is held (in odd years) alternately with the biennial meeting of FENS (in even years), as well as sponsoring young investigator travel awards and international lecturers. As a strong and dynamic Society, EBBS is committed to maintain high standards in the field of behavioural neuroscience and, more generally, to shape a positive future for neuroscience and wider society.

The International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) is the global association of neuroscience societies that aims to promote and support neuroscience around the world through training, education, research, outreach and engagement activities, including through publication of its two journals, Neuroscience and IBRO Neuroscience Reports.

IBRO Neuroscience Reports is IBRO’s open access journal and a companion journal to Neuroscience. Published by Elsevier and edited by Dr. Ying-Shing Chan, the journal serves as a platform for neuroscientists to exchange knowledge on brain research and cognate disciplines concerning the brain.

IBRO Neuroscience Reports includes papers describing the results of original research on any aspect of the scientific study of the nervous system. The journal considers all methodologically sound articles for publication, including negative data. Replication studies are also welcomed, when justified with a scientifically sound rationale.

The Mediterranean Neuroscience Society (MNS) works towards three main objectives:

• Strengthen exchanges between mediterranean neuroscientists;
• Promote education in the neurosciences and increase public awareness of progress made;
• Sustain scientific, training and networking events, such as, in particular, the biennial Mediterranean Neuroscience Conference.

Research on brain function in health and disease is among the priorities for today’s societies, and several indicators put the mediterranean research area among strategic issues for the European Union (EU). To reach these objectives, the MNS’s policy is to work in close cooperation with existing national and international Neuroscience Societies. In particular, we are proud member of the International Brain Research Organization – IBRO and also act in synergy with the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies – FENS. Many South-North collaborations and networks have emerged in recent years through bilateral and multi-lateral actions, supported by the EU or by international and national actions, whether for setting up teaching curricula (e.g. Tempus programs), or by building human potential (e.g. FP7, H2020). Many other initiatives of cooperation (e.g. Neurobridges) have seen the light of day, initiated by groups of motivated individuals, believing in the importance of scientific cooperation as a way to alleviate political distress between cultures with a long history of recent conflicts.
