The CAMHS Eating Disorder Service - Cheshire East are a small team consisting of psychological therapists and a dietitian. They are based within the local CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) which means they also have access to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Consultants who can see a young person should their support be needed for the young person’s recovery. First Steps
First Steps

The First Steps provides one-to-one professional and group support and inclusion in positive activities for people with eating disorders. As a charity, the First Steps are funded by the generosity of people whose contributions allow us to provide these services free of charge. Some of our other core services are funded, but some come at a cost to adults. If you need further assistance, information or support in accessing our services please contact our team.

  • Counselling and Psychotherapy: a safe, non-judgemental and understanding space in which counsellors and psychotherapists provide 1:1 therapy to individuals aged 16 and above with eating disorders. Read more here.
  • Befriending Service: 6-to-9-month weekly support programme that matches a service user with one of our highly trained and supervised befrienders who volunteer to provide ongoing support throughout the contract. The service is offered in a range of formats including, email up to twice a week and video clinic/telephone calls up to once a week. Befriending can provide flexibility and a level of anonymity, giving you the control of your own recovery. You can learn more about our befriending service here.
  • Recovery Workshops & Support Groups: the groups offer a safe and secure space for service users to share their own experiences and engage with others who might be in a similar situation. First Steps ED workshops are essential and can be a lifeline for those in recovery. Participation will give attendees new skills, information and insight to help them identifying triggers and establishing new strategies and coping mechanisms.

The Queensland Eating Disorder Service (QuEDS) provides assessment, care and treatment for people and their families affected by eating disorders. The Richardson Eating Disorder Service (REDS) is a specialist tertiary service, located in Newcastle upon Tyne. REDS provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for adults with moderate and severe eating disorders in North East England. The Statewide Eating Disorder Service (SEDS) is here to help people with an eating disorder and their families to find the right care and support at the right time. SEDS is a specialised mental health service for all South Australians providing assessment, care and information for people living with an eating disorder, or where an eating disorder may be developing.
