Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) is a non-profit organization that envisions a world where frontotemporal degeneration is understood, effectively diagnosed, treated, cured and ultimately prevented. It aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by Fronto-Temporal Dementia and drive research to a cure. We work every day to advance:

  • Research: promote and fund research toward diagnosis, treatment and a cure.
  • Awareness: stimulate greater public awareness and understanding.
  • Support: provide information and support to those directly impacted.
  • Education: promote and provide education for healthcare professionals.
  • Advocacy: advocate for research and appropriate, affordable services.

Australian Frontotemporal Dementia Association (AFTDA)

The Australian Frontotemporal Dementia Association (AFTDA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness and providing support to people living with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), either those with a diagnosis and their families, friends, and carers.  The AFTDA is a registered non-profit carer driven organisations whose mission is to:

  • Establish Carer groups where ever there is a need in Australia – If you know someone in Australia with FTD we invite their Carers to register her
  • Establish a register of FTD sufferers and their primary Carers in Australia
  • Coordinate efforts with peak dementia bodies to disseminate information, education and support to persons diagnosed with an FTD disorder, and for their families and caregivers
  • Help Educate physicians and allied health professionals about Frontotemporal degeneration and how to improve patient care
  • Bring about greater public awareness of the nature and prevalence of Frontotemporal degeneration and the needs of those who are coping with it
  • Lobby for and promote more research into finding the cause, therapies and cures for Frontotemporal degeneration/dementia, in collaboration with international FTD researchers and clinicians
  • Advocate with public officials and promote public and private programs that provide appropriate, affordable and high-quality, long-term health care and social services
  • Facilitate the international exchange of ideas

Frontier specialises in frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and related diseases. Our clinic is integrated with the Frontier research program, where researchers regularly offer patients access to clinical trials connected with the latest research in FTD. The clinic conducts research into Frontotemporal dementia (FTD), the second most common degenerative disease causing dementia in younger adults.
