National Association of Peer Specialists

National Association of Peer Specialists is an organisation dedicated to promoting peer specialists throughout the United States. The National Association of Peer Specialists, Inc. (NAPS), is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to peer support in mental health systems. Founded in November 2004 by a group of peer specialists, the organization has quickly grown with members from every state. NAPS offers members:

• A quarterly newsletter
• Discounts on recovery-oriented materials
• Access to recovery and peer support information
• Sponsors an annual conference for peer specialists which brings together peer specialists and supporters of the peer specialist movement to share ideas, strategies, and information about innovative programs that work.

National Coalition of Mental Health Consumer/Survivor Organizations (NCMHCSO)

The National Coalition of Mental Health Consumer/Survivor Organizations (NCMHCSO) provide a collective voice to transform mental health systems and change public perception about people diagnosed with mental illness. Advocates participated in meetings to develop collaborative strategies to further expand consumer-driven services and flexible Medicaid waivers that promote self-determined care. As a direct result of these meetings NCMHCSO:

• Increased funding for consumer statewide networks
• Participated in several White House meetings, briefings, and policy recommendation sessions with senior advisors to the President.
• Developed Emotional CPR (eCPR), a public health education program that trains laypeople and law enforcement to assist someone through an emotional crisis.
• Participated in the development of the Justice for All Action Network, a national cross-disability coalition which has greatly enhanced the Coalition's policy and legislative influence in Washington, D.C.
