Open Dialogue Centre
Open Dialogue Centre

Open Dialogue Centre aims to enable the widespread adoption of Open Dialogue in Australia. Their vision is that all people experiencing mental distress are able to navigate challenges with the support of their community, family, carers and friends. From the international evidence, we know that Open Dialogue has the potential to be transformative. The Open Dialogue Centre offers a range of programs to reflect the different needs of people and organisations around Australia. You may be interested in exploring Open Dialogue, seeking implementation support or being ready to commit to training. We can customise accordingly – with online and in-person support.

  • One-day Introduction to Open Dialogue—Open Workshop (online): This open workshop is suited to anyone interested in learning more about the Open Dialogue approach. It includes an introduction to the history, principles, and practice of Open Dialogue.
  • One-day discovery workshop for Organisations or Teams (online or in-person): This workshop can be delivered online or in-person and suits organisations or teams that are interested in exploring the potential adoption of Open Dialogue. It includes an introduction to the history, principles and practice of Open Dialogue, coupled with an exploration of the level of organisational commitment, readiness and capability needed to successfully adopt Open Dialogue.
  • One-day leadership and implementation workshop (online or in-person): a brief overview of the opportunities and challenges of implementing Open Dialogue from a management and leadership perspective, including an introduction to the Open Dialogue Centre’s co-design approach service, implementation framework and evaluation methodology
  • Four-day introduction to Open Dialogue (online or in-person): This workshop can be delivered as an open workshop* or tailored more specifically to the needs of an organisation or team*. It includes an overview of the history, principles, and key elements of Open Dialogue and experiential activities related to the practice of network meetings, such as listening and reflections.
  • One-Year Foundation Course: this training takes place in four 5-day Blocks across the year and is suited for individuals working in mental health, health or welfare settings, or schools that are committed to embedding the practice of Open Dialogue. Ideally, participants attend as part of an organisational commitment. However, individuals are also welcome to apply. Individuals coming into this training are expected to bring a degree of openness, curiosity, and vulnerability, as it involves a deep exploration into the history of the future of the politics and ethics of mental health care and an exploration of the larger system and the tensions within it. As part of the training, trainees will engage in deep inner reflections, complete course requirements, and participate in experiential activities and roleplays.
